Cranfield Aerospace Solutions Limited (CAeS), Design Services Group designed and developed a modification to the King Air 350i for the provision of hard points in the aircraft to enable the carriage of Pylons and Weapon stores.
The solution CAeS developed also included work into the cabling and routing to facilitate connections to Master Arm/ Fire switches for both Pilot and Operators in the cabin plus connections to on-board systems. A full mechanical analysis of the wing and whole aircraft interaction included Stress Analysis, Flutter Analysis and Ground Vibration Testing (GVT) was conducted.
The Weapon hard point at each wing installation is capable of supporting 120Kg loads for both gravity dropping of unpowered weapons and for rail launched powered weapons. Moreover, initial design research into the possibility of a Second-Pylon has been done should operators been interested to increase the aircraft load carrying capability.
Alternatively, the King Air 350i hard points are designed to carry external loads that can enhance the role capability of the platform, extend that capability or change the capability into a new role and are suitable for use with different payloads, including targeting pods, countermeasures and sensors. Application areas may include providing an offensive or defensive capability to ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) operational aircraft.
