Professor Ian Poll has been appointed Chairman of the Defence Scientific Advisory Council (DSAC). With its origins dating back to the early part of the Second World War, DSAC is one of the oldest independent scientific advisory committees in Government. The Council provides independent advice to the Secretary of State for Defence on matters relating to science, engineering, technology and analysis and is a forum for combining members’ specialist knowledge and experience with information provided by MoD officials; issues being addressed include policies, plans, priorities, programmes and procedures. Ian has taken over the role from Professor Sir Peter Knight FRS.
Commenting on his appointment Ian said
“It is a privilege to be given this important role at such a challenging time. There are many issues to be addressed and some big problems to be solved. Science, engineering, technology and analysis are central issues in the context of national defence and security and the keys to success”.
