Gordon is currently an Associate Director and the Head of Airborne Systems Group at Cranfield Aerospace Ltd (CAe), looking after CAe’s interests in a wide range of sectors including manned aircraft design, modification, certification and maintenance services, advanced G-cueing simulation products (aerospace and motorsport), flight test platforms and development of UAS products and services.
Gordon graduated with a BEng in Aeronautical Engineering starting his career at Hunting Engineering, before moving to DERA to work in the field of aircraft simulation, and latterly the validation of Typhoon control laws. Gordon then entered the world of Unmanned Air System research and development, publishing and presenting a number of technical papers. In 2009, Gordon joined Cranfield Aerospace Limited as UAV Programmes Manager responsible for, amongst other things, CAe’s involvement in the highly successful X-48 subscale demonstrator programme for Boeing Phantom Works / NASA, managing a team of engineers providing design and manufacture support to the aircraft and continuous flight test support for the 122 flights performed out of the NASA Dryden test facility.
Gordon now heads up a 50 strong team in the Airborne Systems and Aircraft Maintenance Groups at CAe, managing its highly diverse range of sectors and products.
