Vibration Data Logger receives BAE Systems Chairman’s Award

Cranfield Aerospace’s Air Countermeasure Data Logger (ACDL) has received a BAE Systems Chairman’s award in the Transferring Best Practice category. The BAE Systems Chairman’s Award Scheme recognizes excellence in the successful exploitation of innovative ideas, the transfer of best practice and delivery of outstanding support to the customer. Nomination for the award was made by BAE Systems Typhoon Weapons Integration team for the ACDL’s potential in characterizing weapon captive flight vibration. The award follows the successful use of the ACDL to capture environmental flight vibration data during MANTIS trials in Australia late last year.

The BAE Systems Chairman’s Award is recognition of the innovative approach to data gathering. The self-contained, compact nature of the ACDL allows data gathering trials to be performed in a short time period with minimum disruption to the platform operator as was required during the MANTIS flight trial. The successful MANTIS data gathering exercise was facilitated through CAe’s partners, Portsmouth Aviation Ltd.

The vibration data loggers are fully self-contained, small, lightweight, robust and programmable for various data gathering scenarios. Certified for airborne applications (F100A), they have been proven on various aircraft, including fast jets, helicopters, heavy aircraft and unmanned air systems. As proven with the MANTIS flight trials the vibration data loggers are an unobtrusive and highly time efficient means of data gathering.
