Instrumentation Systems
Acting on behalf of DPA (DOSG), we are the custodians of a number of instrumented stores including 1000lb bombs, and CBLS100’s, complete with flight certification. With limited space for flight vibration recorders on most fast jets, these stores are able to monitor adjacent stores and weapons with minimal effect on aircraft handling.
A similar instrumentation fit is carried by both the 1,000lb bomb and CBLS units and comprises:
Up to 32 channels of wideband vibration data. This included signal conditioning units for accelerometers or strain gauges and digital recording using Digital Audio Tape (DAT). The data recorders are versatile in that the sample rates can be set independently for each channel, according to requirements. Typically, the recorders are set to sample at 6 ksps, providing a 0 to 2 KHz bandwidth.
In such a configuration, continuous recordings can be made for up to 4 hrs. Higher sampling rates, up to 20 ksps are available, for example when measuring the effects of gunfire.
The Instrumented Stores have proved themselves to be extremely reliable in operation.
Up to 16 channels of low sample rate data is also available. This is suitable for slowly varying parameters, e.g. temperature, pressure and relative humidity. The data recorders each have a real-time clock, which is used to synchronise the data with specific flight events. A key feature of the instrumented stores is that they are completely self-contained, i.e. there is no requirement for any electrical connections to aircraft.
Experience in use has shown that data collection and turn-round times are extremely efficient, enabling good use of available aircraft time.
We can design and build instrumentation modules to suit any transport environment on Land, Sea or Air.
